For outdoor construction sheds, it can bemade of aluminum plates, 235/355, or weather-resistant steel
Comparison of Laser Cutting Sheet Materialsfor Outdoor Construction Shables (Aluminum Plate / Q235B / Q355B /Weather-resistant Steel)
1. Core characteristics of each material& adaptability of outdoor greenhouses
1. Aluminum alloy plate (3003/5052 outdooraluminum plate, pure aluminum 1060 not recommended)
Advantages
Anti-corrosion ceiling: natural oxide film, resistant to rainwater, saline-alkali conditions, factory fog, and coastal environments, ensuring lifetime rust-free outdoor maintenance;
Lightweight: only one-third the weight of steel for the same thickness, reducing the load on the main beams of the scaffolding and lowering the cost of columns and foundations;
Laser cutting is burr-free, aesthetically pleasing, and highly flexible in bending, punching, and carved shapes, making it the top choice for exterior decorative sheds;
Surface can be sprayed with fluorocarbon or powder coating, color options available, UV resistant and does not fade.
Weaknesses
The unit price is higher than ordinary carbon steel, but its rigidity is weaker than steel. For large-span load-bearing sheds, thicker plates or reinforcement ribs are needed;
The welding process requires high standards, and the weld strength is not as strong as steel.
Applicable scenarios: landscape sunshades,carports, facade decorative canopies, coastal high-corrosion factory areagreenhouses, lightweight small rain canopies
2. Q235B ordinary carbon steel
Advantages
Lowest price, moderate strength, low lasercutting cost, mature welding and bending processing, and ample supply.
Weaknesses
Outdoor fatal defect: Extremely prone torust, requires full anti-corrosion treatment (sandblasting + primer +intermediate paint + outdoor topcoat), requiring repainting and maintenanceevery 2-3 years; Coastal and chemical plants rust through within a year.
Suitable scenarios: short-term temporarysheds, indoor sheds, low-budget short-term construction site sheds; notrecommended for long-term outdoor use
3. Q355B low-alloy high-strength steel
Advantages
30% higher strength than Q235, can reducethin panels with the same load-bearing capacity, slightly lighter self-weight,better resistance to wind and snow pressure; Stable cutting and weldingperformance.
Weaknesses
Like Q235, it lacks corrosion resistanceand must be fully coated for outdoor use, resulting in high maintenance costs.
Applicable scenarios: large-span heavy-dutysteel structure sheds (cargo stacking, equipment sheds), inland corrosion-freefactory areas, limited budget and willingness to perform regular anti-corrosionmaintenance
4. Corten steel
Advantages
Comes with a self-rusting protective layer,no painting needed; rainwater erodes to form a dense rust layer that isolatesinternal steel, so inland and outdoor areas require no painting; Retroindustrial style, with unique landscape shed decoration effects; Its strengthis close to that of Q355.
Weaknesses
In the early stage, water flows and rust stains can contaminate the floor, walls, and columns;
Failure in coastal environments, high salt spray, and high humidity causes salt to destroy and passivate the rust layer, causing continuous corrosion;
It cannot be exposed to standing water for long periods and is more expensive than ordinary carbon steel;
The style is single, with only rust primal colors, making it impossible to produce conventional colored paint finishes.
Applicable scenarios: landscape greenhousesin inland parks, industrial-style display canopies, decorative rain shelters indry regions; coastal and heavy-duty warehouse shelters are prohibited
